Named after Cosimo de Piro, the first de Piro to settle in Malta in 1530.

The de Piro family left Rhodes with the Knights of St John in 1522 and settled in Malta when the islands were granted to Grand Master Fra Philippe Villers de L’Isle Adam.  He was given trusted responsibility within the Order of St John and made Commander of the Arsenal of the Sovereign Prince. The large canvas on the wall has the symbol of the Borghese family of Rome in the centre.
